Speeches and Articles from Diana Johnson No 2 Go to letter 1 | Go to letter 3 I back to elections page Text of letter to Brentwood Gazette 18 March 2001 I was very pleased to see the national media coverage given to Eric Pickles MP, who it was alleged, on his own web site had acknowledged that the Labour government has been doing a very good job attracting business into the UK. Despite the Tories claim that Labour's measures introducing fairness at work including the minimum wage and the right to time off for family emergencies would be a disaster for business, quite the opposite has happened! Employers realise that flexible working and treating employees fairly is the best way to have a committed and loyal workforce. It also worth noting that Labour has also delivered the lowest ever business rate. Small companies have benefited even more by a cut in corporation tax to just 10p. Labour has very successfully married economic efficiency and social justice in the workplace. Thanks for your support Eric! Yours faithfully Diana Johnson Parliamentary spokesperson for Brentwood and Ongar
